SM&LC Membership
SM&LC Membership is open to all.
For reasons of safety however, all prospective Full Members must first, either demonstrate their knowledge of lapidary and competency with the equipment used, or for those who are new to lapidary, undergo our INTRODUCTORY LAPIDARY COURSE where the relevant training will be given.
Once a persons ability has been demonstrated, or the training course completed, they can enrol as a Full Member and be able to use the lapidary workshop unassisted. Training in other areas such as Faceting and Silverwork is given to members as requested.
Membership tyes and annual costs are:
- Full Member (adult) : £216*
full access to workshop and its facilities – trips, talks, library, social, etc - Junior Member (under 16) : £72
limited access to workshop (some equipment excluded) facilities, trips, talks, library, social, etc - Associate : £20
newsletter, trips, talks, library, social.
* An additional £1 is paid by full members for every session they attend (for teas, coffees, etc)
These prices are annual and compare favourably to night class fees, especially since we are open 6 days a week, all year round.
Special / Temporary Memberships are offered by committee discretion.

Course dates for 2025:
Instruction takes place at 4 times throughout the year.
Each course can take up to 6 people and will (usually) take place on the first weekend of the Months of January, April, July and October.

Once your training is complete…
… you can apply to become a full member and have access to the workshop, and it’s facilities.
Continuation of membership is entirely optional after the training period, but this is the normal route to full membership.
The workshop encompasses traditional lapidary, precious stone cutting or faceting, silverwork and specimen preparation.
Each of these areas can be explored at no extra cost as a full member.
We also have an excellent library and mineral collection.

Although we are a Charitable Organisation and not a business per se, we do, at times, have a surplus of equipment, rocks & minerals and a variety of other items that we will list here and make available to the public.
